The Value of Time Management In Everyday Life

Welcome to the VC Social Podcast. In this episode we discuss the value and importance of having good time management in our everyday lives. We all have unique experiences managing our time trying to accomplish different tasks daily, between work, school, and our personal lives how do we possibly complete everything in a timely manner without  burning out or feeling overstressed? Maybe it’s time to start trying new methods! It all comes back to limiting our time with distractions, which we personally struggle with since nowadays most work is done online and realize that we need to build our self control to not get sucked into social media. As well as not being afraid to say “no” when being tempted to go out with friends or family, not to mean that you should never go out because of work, however make sure that you are planning ahead accordingly.

Acai Bowls: The Perfect Snack for Students

Açaí (ah-sigh-EE) bowls are a delicious and healthy snack or meal option for busy students on the go. These berries are considered “superfruit” due to their nutritional value. The fruit is rich in healthy fats, and fiber, and it contains more antioxidants than other common berries. Besides these incredible properties, studies have shown that the consumption of it boosts brain function and it’s a great source of energy. This is exactly what we need to maintain a busy student lifestyle.

These berries come from a species of palm tree grown in the Amazon – Brazil. The fruit looks like a dark purple grape and it’s consumed as a smoothie, topped with fruits, nut butter, and seeds. Acai bowls are known for their vibrant color, creamy texture, and how easy it is to prepare. It can be customized to suit your taste and nutritional needs, and gives you a variety of health benefits.

Here is my recommendation, my favorite bowl: Acai, honey almond granola, strawberries, blueberries, bananas, peanut butter, coconut shavings, chia seeds, and a drizzle of condensed milk. Trust me on this one.

Now that you learned about this, next time you need a quick and healthy meal or snack, consider getting an acai bowl. There is a store right in front of Ventura College. And by doing so, you will also support a local business owned by a Brazilian family. Hope you enjoy your acai bowl!

Yoga at Ventura College

If the benefits of mindfulness, building strength, reducing anxiety, and boosting your immune system sound compelling, consider taking a yoga class here on campus!

I am currently taking this class with instructor Lara Ohlinger. With her experience and passion for the practice it’s not a surprise she’s taught this class for years! This course focuses on three important concepts, Mind, Body, and Soul. It is scientifically proven to reduce stress, improve strength, flexibility, and mental health. In class, we focus a lot on our breathing. Big deep breaths, and long exhalations. We also use props such as rollers to help with stretches, blocks to help our posture, and straps for a deep stretch in the legs when we aren’t as flexible.

At the beginning of this class, I definitely was not as mindful as I am now. I tend to focus more on my breathing, especially in times of stress or anxiety. I remind myself to breathe and know that it will be okay no matter the situation. I take this course in the morning, which makes me feel ready to start my day and feel good about it. You can even try yoga at home! Poses such as the child’s pose, and the downward facing dog, are some of my favorites for a good stretch.

Overall, I would recommend this class or any yoga class to anyone who is looking for a little more peace in their lives, and something to make you feel good and happy about yourself!

The 1st Frontier

This is where space happens - NL Space Campus

The pristine untouched frontier in a human life is within the human being itself!

It has been said

“We know what we know”

“We know what we don’t know”

And

“We don’t know what we don’t know.”

How are you, how will you, discover what you don’t know about yourself?

One begins, one’s own quest, and continues one’s quest by entertaining, by holding open the possibility that we can discover what we don’t know about ourselves, that we may well not know, what we need to know, about ourselves.

In other words, our individual willingness, and commitment is necessary, in being present and aware of our desire to find out what we need to know about ourselves within ourselves as we go about our outwardly life. Until we discover what we need to know, part of which is certainly about our best of self, which we need to meet whatever challenges we face.

We are each invited to this opportunity.

The Added Values of Memories

Building new happy memories is essential to our mental health. They build bonds in our relationships. Building new happy memories builds strength upon our identity. Some of our strongest memories we hold onto are our first time experiences. If its a bad experience then we avoid ever doing it again, but if its a good experience then we do it over again. Some go as far as taking the activity that created the positive memory and making it a hobby and in some cases a business.

According to Health.USNews.COM several benefits are related to good positive nostalgic memories. They are the following.

  1. Mood booster – A mood boost is an action, activity that helps fortify against depression, stress and anxiety. Could possibly lower PTSD episodes.

2. Triggers inspiration and motivation – Inspiration is mental stimulation that evokes you to do something creative. Motivation is a process that creates and maintains goal-oriented behavior.

3. Provides glimpse of your authentic self – as we peel back the onion layers to ourselves we become our best versions of ourselves. It is called our authentic self because this is where our words and actions match our core identity.

4. Can help with problem-solving – Identifying, prioritizing, and coming up with a slew of solutions is something we humans naturally do. Without this we are under stimulated and we don’t grow maturely.

5. Helps you handle tough situations in healthier ways – This is how we build our resilience. this creates healthy empathy and altruism meaning the desire to selflessly act for a greater good. One of our strongest acts of compassion as human beings.

6. Can give a greater sense of meaning in your life – A healthy foundation for our approaches to life.

7. Improves relationships – Adding up and combining our six previous listed benefits ultimately lead to healthier, happier relationships which create more grand memories which we then gain more of these seven incremental benefits. Think of it as a positive snowball effect.

I would love it if you, the reader were to participate in a mental health exercise or game rather that I came up with. It’s called “The Adventure Date Challenge”. The rules are simple. Go on a date. It could be with your life partner, a family member or even a pet. You get to set the tone. Visit all four places in the picture below and take a selfie, hashtag your photos with #VCSocialADC and in the comments below share with us your best experience because we love to hear about how you seized the day.
