- 25 minute study hack, than take a 5 minute break
The best study habit I’ve learned after so many hours of sweat, coffee, and a bright computer screen is time. For the 25 minute study hack you will need a timer, and a homework assignment. (Yes I said, “homework,” I know we are tired of hearing that word.) To start this hack you will set your timer to 25 minutes, and begin working on the assignment of your choice. Once the 25 minutes are over, get up and set the timer to 5 minutes. When the timer starts ticking, you are now free to do whatever you want for those precisou 5 minutes. Third, repeat the cycle till you complete your work.
- Start your most difficult assignments first.
I like to wake up in the morning to start tackling the biggest assignments first. This will allow you to put 100% on your work. College has taught us to work the equivalent of superhero. We can all relate to times we had to bust all nighters, or complete an assignment with 2 hours of sleep. Lets face it, the first two through four hours is our most productive work. After a certain amount of time invested doing homework, we start to lose brain power.
- Build a schedule you like
Human nature craves routine. Start a routine for your homework, studying, and for every college activity. Your college routine is like a vehicle, so learn how to drive it. Most of us end up with procrastination driving our routine off the path to success. To begin, organize your homework assignments to specific days and times. For example, if you have three science assignments due this week, then schedule oen assignment for monday, another for tuesday, and one for thursday. At the beginning this will feel like a magician trying to juggle social life, work, family, hobbies, etc. You can organize your assignments on a calendar, Iphone reminders, or on a piece of printing paper. (This is my favorite, because you can cross out a finished assignment like a crossword puzzle.)
- Balance/Don’t bite more than you can chew.
The number one study hack that is a hidden gem behind sleepless nights studying, and ramen noodles, is balance. College work can get overwhelming. Balance is the cryptonight of procrastination. Start by dedicating a few hours of homework, then putting it away for good. Go out with friends, family, or sit down and binge watch your favorite Netflix Show. You can do anything you want. Try jumping in the air and yelling, “I’m done with homework!” Balance, balance, Balance.
